Job Title: Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse (PACU)
Job Summary:
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse (PACU) is responsible for providing care to patients recovering from anesthesia after surgery. They monitor vital signs, assess pain levels, and ensure patients are stable and comfortable as they come out of anesthesia. PACU Nurses also educate patients and their families on post-operative care and precautions.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Monitor post-operative patients for potential complications or adverse reactions to anesthesia.
2. Assess patients' pain levels and provide appropriate pain management interventions.
3. Monitor vital signs, oxygen saturation, and consciousness levels of patients.
4. Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure a smooth transition from the operating room to the recovery room.
5. Educate patients and families on post-operative care instructions and follow-up appointments.
6. Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in medical records.
7. Assist with patient discharge planning and coordination with other healthcare providers.
8. Maintain a clean and safe environment in the PACU.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Valid RN license in the state of practice.
2. BLS and ACLS certification.
3. Minimum of 2 years of experience in a PACU or critical care setting.
4. Strong critical thinking and assessment skills.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize patient care.
7. Knowledge of anesthesia medications and their effects.
8. Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
