Job Title: Sterile Processing Technologist
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Sterile Processing Technologist to join our healthcare team. As a Sterile Processing Technologist, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the cleanliness, sterilization, and maintenance of all surgical instruments and equipment. You will play a crucial role in preventing infections and promoting patient safety within the healthcare facility. The ideal candidate should possess exceptional attention to detail, extensive knowledge of sterilization techniques, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Inspect, assemble, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments following recognized infection control and safety practices.
- Operate and maintain various types of sterilization equipment, such as autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and washers.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of instrument sets for surgical procedures.
- Monitor and document sterilization equipment routine maintenance and perform basic troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with surgical team members to organize and manage instrument inventory.
- Adhere to strict infection control regulations and maintain a sterile environment.
- Follow protocols for handling and disposing of hazardous waste materials.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in sterilization techniques and infection control practices.
- Assist in training and mentoring new Sterile Processing Technologists.
- Uphold departmental policies, procedures, and protocols.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- Completion of a formal Sterile Processing Technologist training program or certification is preferred.
- At least one year of relevant experience in sterile processing within a healthcare facility.
- Excellent knowledge of instruments, sterilization processes, and infection control protocols.
- Proficient in utilizing sterilization equipment, such as autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented and able to maintain accurate records.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well within a team and collaborate effectively.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and standard practices regarding sterilization.
