Job Title: Emergency Room Nurse
Job Summary: The Emergency Room Nurse plays a crucial role in providing urgent healthcare to patients in an emergency room setting. They are responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals. The role requires excellent critical thinking, decision-making, and communication skills, as well as the ability to remain calm under pressure and efficiently prioritize patient needs.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Assess and triage patients upon arrival in the emergency room.
2. Quickly and accurately gather patient information, including medical history and current condition.
3. Perform thorough physical examinations and identify any emergent needs.
4. Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
5. Administer medication, monitor vital signs, and provide wound care as needed.
6. Assist in emergency procedures such as intubation, defibrillation, and CPR.
7. Monitor patients' responses to treatment, modifying care plans accordingly.
8. Ensure patient safety by following infection control protocols and maintaining a clean environment.
9. Educate patients and their families about their conditions and provide discharge instructions.
10. Document patient care and maintain accurate medical records.
11. Respond to emergencies and provide immediate care in life-threatening situations.
12. Stay updated on current trends, developments, and advancements in emergency nursing.
13. Provide emotional support to patients and their families during distressing situations.
14. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and agencies to ensure continuity of care.
15. Adhere to professional nursing ethics, standards, and legal requirements.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program (preferred).
2. Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
3. Minimum of 2 years of experience in emergency nursing or a related field (preferred).
4. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications.
5. Excellent clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.
6. Ability to remain calm and focused during high-stress situations.
7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
8. Proficient in handling and interpreting medical equipment and tools.
9. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team.
10. Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
11. In-depth knowledge of emergency medical procedures and protocols.
12. Detail-oriented and ability to multitask effectively.
13. Adaptable to changes in healthcare practices and continuous learning.
14. Familiarity with electronic medical record systems.
15. Strong ethical integrity and commitment to patient-centered care.
