Job Title: Sterile Processing Technologist
Job Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technologist is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sterility, and proper handling of all surgical instruments and equipment. They play a pivotal role in maintaining a clean and safe environment within healthcare facilities. The primary objective of this role is to support the surgical team by sterilizing and preparing instruments, maintaining proper inventory, and adhering to infection control guidelines.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to established protocols.
2. Inspect, assemble, and package surgical instruments and supplies.
3. Operate and maintain sterilizing equipment, including autoclaves and sonic cleaners.
4. Prepare surgical trays and sets based on surgical procedures.
5. Monitor and record sterilization parameters and ensure proper documentation.
6. Maintain inventory of sterile supplies and order as needed.
7. Follow infection control guidelines to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
8. Collaborate with surgical team members, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
9. Handle biohazardous materials in a safe and compliant manner.
10. Monitor and troubleshoot equipment, report any malfunctions, and follow up on repairs.
11. Stay updated on new techniques, procedures, and advances in sterile processing.
12. Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and maintain proper records.
13. Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and training programs.
14. Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Qualifications and Skills:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing Technician program/certification.
3. Knowledge of medical terminology and surgical instruments.
4. Familiarity with infection control practices and guidelines.
5. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
6. Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
8. Knowledge of sterilization equipment and techniques.
9. Ability to follow established protocols and maintain quality standards.
10. Basic computer skills and proficiency in record-keeping.
